Solution

$49 x^{2}-b=\left(7 x+\frac{1}{2}\right)\left(7 x-\frac{1}{2}\right)$

$\Rightarrow \quad 49 x^{2}-b=(7 x)^{2}-\left(\frac{1}{2}\right)^{2}$

$=49^{2}-\frac{1}{4} \quad\left[\because(a+b)(a-b)=a^{2}-b^{2}\right]$

So, we get $b=\frac{1}{4}$

Hence, $(a)$ is the correct answer.
