Solution
Roasting is the process in which the ore in strongly heated in the presence of excess air.
In the extraction of copper consequent to crushing and concentration of the ore, it is heated in a reverberatary furnace.
Copper pyrites is oxidised and a part of sulphur in the ore is removed as sulphur dioxide.
