hard
A man sells two articles, each for $Rs.\,640.$ He earns $20 \%$ profit on the first, and $40 \%$ profit on the second. Find his overall percent profit.
A
$29 \frac{1}{2}$
B
$28 \frac{1}{2}$
C
$29 \frac{3}{13}$
D
None of these
Solution
Here, $x=20$ and $y=40$.
$\therefore$ Overall gain \%
$=\left[\frac{100(x+y)+2 x y}{(100+x)+(100+y)}\right] \%$
$=\left[\frac{100(20+40)+2 \times 20 \times 40}{(100+20)+(100+40)}\right] \%$
$=\frac{7600}{260} \%=29 \frac{3}{13} \%$
