7.Profit and Loss
hard
A shopkeeper loses $7 \%$ by selling a cricket ball for $Rs.\,31.$ For how much should he sell the ball so as to $\operatorname{gain} 5 \% ?$ (in $Rs.$)
A
$50$
B
$65$
C
$35$
D
None of these
Solution
In the first case, $S.P.$ $=Rs. 31$ and loss $\%=7 \%$
$\therefore \quad$ C.P. $=\left(\frac{100}{100-\operatorname{Loss} \%}\right) \times$ S.P. $=\left(\frac{100}{100-7}\right) \times 31$
$=\frac{100}{93} \times 31=Rs. 33 \frac{1}{3}$
In the second case, $C . P .=Rs. 33 \frac{1}{3}$ and gain $\%=5 \%$
$\therefore \quad$ $S.P.$ $=\left(\frac{100+\operatorname{Gain} \%}{100}\right) \times$ $C.P.$
$=\left(\frac{100+5}{100}\right) \times \frac{100}{3}=\frac{105}{100} \times \frac{100}{3}=Rs.35$
