A shopkeeper purchased $70$ $kg$ of potatoes for $Rs.\, 420$ and sold the whole lot at the rate of $Rs.\, 6.5$ per $kg.$ What will be his gain percent?
A
$4 \frac{1}{6}$
B
$6 \frac{1}{4}$
C
$8 \frac{1}{3}$
D
$20$
Solution
Cost price of potatoes $=Rs. 420 / 70 kg =Rs. 6 / kg$
Selling price of potatoes $=Rs. 6.5 / kg$
$\therefore \quad$ Gain percent $=\frac{S . P .-C \cdot P .}{C . P .} \times 100=\frac{6.5-6}{6} \times 100=\frac{1}{12} \times 100=8 \frac{1}{3} \%$
