5.Molecular Basis of Inheritance
normal
Assertion: An organism with lethal mutation may not even develop beyond the zygote.
Reason: All types of gene mutations are lethal.
A
If both Assertion and Reason are correct and the Reason is a correct explanation of the Assertion.
B
If both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not a correct explanation of the Assertion.
C
If the Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect.
D
If both the Assertion and Reason are incorrect.
(AIIMS-2006)
Solution
Organisms with lethal mutation bear lethal genes that result in the death of the individual which carries them. The completely lethal genes usually cause death of the zygote. Mutation is a sudden heritable change in the sequence of gene occuring on the chromosomes. Mutation may be beneficial, normal, sublethal or lethal.
