Define 'average speed'. An object moves with a uniform speed of $10\, m s ^{-1}$ for $5 s$ and then with a uniform speed of $5\, m s ^{-1}$ for $10\, s$. Find its average speed.

Average speed of an object is obtained by dividing the total distance travelled by the total time taken.

Total distance covered $=(10 \times 5+5 \times 10) m$

Time taken $=15 s$

Therefore, Average speed $=\frac{100 m }{15 s }=6.66 m s ^{-1}$
