Monoclonal antibodies are highly specific antibodies derived from only one clone of a specific hybridoma cell. They recognize only one specific site of an antigen. These can be used in detecting allergies, diagnosing viral diseases and in detecting certain types of cancers. Monoclonal antibodies are now-a-days marketed as 'magic bullets' The idea of magic bullet was first proposed by Paul Ehrlich.
