General Principles and processes of Isolation of Elements
medium
Sodium thiosulphate is used in photography to :-
A
Reduce $AgBr$ in to metallic $Ag$
B
Dissolve out $Ag$ produced by reduction
C
Remove unaffected $AgBr$ in the photographic film or plate
D
None of these
Solution
In photography, undecomposed $AgBr$ is removed with the help of sodium thiosulphate, i.e., hypo.
$\underset{\text { sodium bromide }}{ AgBr }+\underset{\text { sodium thiosulphate }}{2 Na _2 S _2 O _3} \rightarrow \underset{\text { sodium argernto thiosulphate }}{ Na _3\left[ Ag \left( S _2 O _3\right)_2\right]}+ NaBr$
