2.Motion in Straight Line
hard
Speed-time graph of two cars $A$ and $B$ approaching towards each other is shown in figure. Initial distance between them is $60\,m$. The two cars will cross each other after time $..........\,s$
A$2$
B$3$
C$1.5$
D$\sqrt{2}$
Solution
(b)
Slope of $v$ – $t$ graph gives acceleration/retardation $|a|=5\,m / s ^2$ for both of them. $A$ has acceleration while $B$ has retardation.
$\left|s_A\right|+\left|s_B\right|=60$
or $\quad\left\{\frac{1}{2} \times 5 \times t^2\right\}+\left\{20 t-\frac{1}{2} \times 5 \times t^2\right\}=60$
or $t=3\,s$
