medium
The average of $X_{1}, X_{2}$ and $X_{3}$ is $14 .$ Twice the sum of $X_{2}$ and $X_{3}$ is $30 .$ What is the value of $X_{1} ?$
A
$20$
B
$27$
C
$16$
D
$12$
Solution
Given average of $X_{1}, X_{2}$ and $X_{3}=14$
$i.e.$ $X_{1}+X_{2}+X_{3}=14 \times 3=42$ ……$(1)$
$2\left(X_{2}+X_{3}\right)=30$
$X_{2}+X_{3}=15$…..$(2)$
$(1)-(2) \Rightarrow X_{1}=42-15=27$
