General Principles and processes of Isolation of Elements
normal
The Ellingham diagram for zinc, magnesium and carbon converting into corresponding oxides is shown below.
To make the following reduction process spontaneous, temperature should be
$ZnO + C \to Zn + CO$

A
$1000\,^oC$
B
$> \,1100\,^oC$
C
$<\,500\,^oC$
D
$<\,1000\,^oC$
Solution
Based on diagram we can suggest that the metal or species which have lower $\Delta G$ value can reduce the metal which have higher value of $\Delta G$ at particular temperature.
In the given diagram at $1000$ degrees $\Delta G$ value of both curves is same but after $1000$ degrees say at $1100$ degrees the curve of carbon have least $\Delta G$ value than that of zinc.
so at $1100$ degrees the carbon can be useful to reduce zinc oxide to zinc
