6-2.Equilibrium-II (Ionic Equilibrium)
hard
What is the molar solubility of $Ag_2CO_3$ $(K_{sp} = 4\times 10^{-13})$ in $0.1\,M\,Na_2CO_3$ solution
A
$10^{-6}$
B
$10^{-7}$
C
$2\times 10^{-6}$
D
$2\times 10^{-7}$
Solution
Let solubility of $\mathrm{Ag}_{2} \mathrm{CO}_{3}$ in presence of $Na_2CO_3$ is $x$,
$\mathrm{Ag}_{2} \mathrm{CO}_{3}(\mathrm{s}) \rightleftharpoons 2 \mathrm{Ag}^{+}(\mathrm{aq}-)+\mathrm{CO}_{3}^{2-}(\mathrm{aq})$
$2x$ $(x+0.1)=0.1$
${{\text{K}}_{{\text{sp}}}} = {\left[ {{\text{A}}{{\text{g}}^ + }} \right]^2}\left[ {{\text{CO}}_3^{2 – }} \right]$
$ \Rightarrow 4 \times {10^{ – 13}} = {(2{\text{x}})^2} \times 0.1$
$ \Rightarrow {\text{x}} = {10^{ – 6}}$
