Histones are basic proteins found in the eukaryotic chromosomes. These are rich in basic amino acids lysine and arginine. There are basically five types of histones, i.e., $H_{1}, H_{2} A, H_{2} B, H_{3} \wedge H_{4}$ which have been studied in almost all eukaryotic cells.
