General Principles and processes of Isolation of Elements
medium
$Ag_2S + NaCN + Zn \rightarrow Ag$
This method of extraction of $Ag$ by complex formation and then its displacement is called :
A
Parke's method
B
McArthur-Forest method
C
Serpeck method
D
Hall's method
Solution
Cyanide process is used for extraction of $Ag$ which is also called Mc-Arthur forest process.Reactions occurs in extraction of silver –
$Ag _2 S +4 NaCN \rightarrow 2 Na \left[ Ag ( CN )_2\right]+ Na _2 S$ (reversible reaction)
$4 Na _2 S +5 O _2+ H _2 O \rightarrow 2 Na _2 SO _4+4 NaOH +2 S$
and $2 Na \left[ Ag ( CN )_2\right]+ Zn \rightarrow Na _2\left[ Zn ( CN )_4\right]+2 Ag$
