7.Profit and Loss
hard
A man sells two article for $Rs.\,5000$ each neither losing nor gaining in the deal. If he sold one of them at a gain of $25 \%,$ the other article is sold at a loss of.......$\%$
A
$15 \frac{2}{3}$
B
$16 \frac{2}{3}$
C
$17 \frac{1}{3}$
D
$18 \frac{1}{3}$
Solution
$C.P.$ of the first article $=5000 \times \frac{100}{125}$
$=₹ 4000$
Then, loss on the second article
$=₹ 1000$
Therefore, $C.P.$ of the second article
$=₹ 6000$
Let, the loss per cent be $x \%,$ then
$\frac{6000 \times x}{100}=1000$
$x=\frac{1000 \times 100}{6000}$
$=\frac{50}{3}=16 \frac{2}{3} \%$
