A manufacturer undertakes to supply $2000$ pieces of a particular component at $Rs.\, 25$ per piece. According to his estimates, even if $5 \%$ fail to pass the quality tests, then he will make a profit of $25 \% .$ However, as it turned out, $50 \%$ of the components were rejected. What is the loss to the manufacturer ? (in $Rs.$)
$12000$
$13000$
$14000$
$15000$
Solution
$S.P.$ of one piece $=Rs. 25$
$\therefore$ Total $S.P.$ $=2000 \times 25 ; \quad$ Profit $\%=25$
$5 \%$ failed in quality test
$\therefore \quad$ Net $S.P.$ $=\left(2000 \times \frac{95}{100}\right) \times 25=1900 \times 25$
$\therefore \quad$ Cost price $=\frac{100}{125} \times 1900 \times 25=Rs. 38000$
If $50 \%$ of components rejected,
So, loss incurred to manufacturer $=(38000-25 \times 1000)=Rs. 13000$
