4-1.Newton's Laws of Motion
medium
A ship of mass $3 \times {10^7}\,kg$ initially at rest is pulled by a force of $5 \times {10^4}\,N$ through a distance of $3 \,m$. Assume that the resistance due to water is negligible, the speed of the ship is ........... $m/s$
A
$1.5$
B
$60$
C
$0.1$
D
$5$
(IIT-1980)
Solution
(c) ${v^2} = 2as = 2\left( {\frac{F}{m}} \right)\;s$ $[As\;u = 0]$
$⇒$ ${v^2} = 2\left( {\frac{{5 \times {{10}^4}}}{{3 \times {{10}^7}}}} \right) \times 3 = \frac{1}{{100}}$
$⇒$ $v = 0.1\;m/s$
