medium
A shopkeeper sold an article for $Rs.\, 400$ after giving $20 \%$ discount on the labelled price and made $30 \%$ profit on the cost price. What would have been the percentage profit, had he not given the discount?
A
$25$
B
$35$
C
$50$
D
$62.5$
Solution
In this question, you don't need to solve in multiple steps to first find $MP,$ then $CP$ etc. In such questions if we need to find profit $\%$ if no discount is given, then formula is
Profit $\%=\frac{(\text { Discount } \%)+(\text { Profit } \% \text { earlier })}{(100- Discount \%)} \times 100$
$=\frac{20+30}{100-20} \times 100=62.5 \%$
