$(i)$ Plants of dry region shed leaves for control of transpiration. So in absence of leaves, stem becomes green with chlorophyll and flat. The stem performing photosynthesis is called phylloclade.
$(ii)$ In Nephrolapis and strawberry, a horizontal branch from the base of a plant that produces new plants from buds at its tip or nodes.
