What does the odometer of an automobile measures ? Which of the following is moving faster ? Justify your answer.
$(i)$ A scooter moving with a speed of $300\, m$ per minute.
$(ii)$ A car moving with a speed of $36 \,km$ per hour.
Solution
Odometer of an automobile measures the distance travelled by the automobile from its origin or between two stations.
$(i)$ $300 m$ per minute $=300 / 60=5 m s ^{-1}$
$(ii)$ $36 km$ per hour $=36 \times 5 / 18=10 m s ^{-1}$
$5 m s ^{-1}<10 m s ^{-1}$
$300 m$ per minute $< 36 km$ per hour.
Hence, car moves faster
