With a $5 \%$ discount on the cost of sugar, a buyer could purchase $2\, kg$ more sugar for $Rs.$ $608 .$ Selling price of sugar is? (in $Rs$)
A
$15.50$
B
$15$
C
$16.50$
D
$16$
Solution
Discount $\%$ in initial cost of sugar $=5 \%$
Now to keep $Rs.$ $608$ price constant,
$\%$ increase in initial consumption
$=\left(\frac{5}{100-5}\right) \times 100 \%=\frac{100}{19} \%$
Here, $=\frac{100}{19} \%$ is increase in consumption,
$So , \quad\left(\frac{100}{19} \%=2 kg \right)$
So initial consumption i.e. $(100 \%)$
$=(19 \times 2)=38 kg$
Initial $SP$ of Sugar $=$ $Rs.$ $\frac{608}{38}=$ $Rs.$ $16 / kg$
