The main active element is $Delta$-$9$ Tetrahydrocannabinol($THC$). It causes pupil dilation, high level of sugar in blood, higher urine formation.

Generally taken by inhalation and oral ingestion, these are known for their effects on cardiovascular system.

Cannabinoids are also used by some sport persons for increased athletic performance.
