8. FORCE AND LAWS OF MOTION
medium
A truck starts from rest and rolls down a hill with a constant acceleration. It travels a distance of $400 \,m $ in $20\, s$. Find the force(in $N$) acting on it if its mass is $7$ tonnes ($1$ tonne $= 1000\, kg$)
A
$14000$
B
$41000$
C
$16000$
D
$11000$
Solution
Initial velocity of the truck, $u = 0\, m/s$
Time taken, $t = 20\, s$
Distance covered by the stone,$ s = 400\, m$
According to the second equation of motion:
$s=u t+\frac{1}{2} a t^{2}$
We have
$400=0 \times 20+\frac{1}{2} \times a \times(20)^{2}$
$\Rightarrow 400=200 a$
$\Rightarrow a=2\, m / s ^{2}$
Now, Force = mass $\times$ acceleration
$F=7000 \times 2=14000\, N$
