Consider the string makes an angle $\theta$ with the horizontal, Taking $FBD$ of the block, we get $m g=2 T \sin \theta$
$\therefore T=\frac{m g}{2 \sin \theta}$
Now, as the denominator decreases Tension becomes more and the string breaks. It means $\theta$ should be minimum in case of maximum Tension and to break the string.
Thus, $\mathrm{C}$ is the case
