$(1,\,1)$ means $x=1$ and $y=1$

Putting $x=1$ and $y=1$ in $x-2 y=4,$ we get

                  L.H.S.$= 1-2(1)=1-2=-1$

But             R . H.S $=4$                  $\therefore $ L.H.S . $\neq $ R.H.S

$\therefore $ $(1,\,1)$ is a solution.
