Solution
(a) The value of $g$ on the surface of the earth $g \propto \frac{1}{{{R^2}}}$
At height $h$ from the surface of the earth $g' \propto \frac{1}{{{{(R + h)}^2}}}$
$\therefore \,\,\,g' = g\frac{{{R^2}}}{{{{(R + h)}^2}}} = \frac{{9.8 \times {{(6400)}^2}}}{{{{(6400 + 480)}^2}}} = 8.4\,\,m/{s^2}$
