Solution
$\mathrm{Zr}$ and Ti are purified by van-Arkel method. $\underset{\text {Impure}}{Z r+2 I_{2}} \stackrel{600\,^{o} C}{\longrightarrow} Z r I_4 \stackrel{1800\,^{o} C}{\longrightarrow} \underset{\text {pure}}{Z r+2 I_{2}}$
This method is useful for removing all the oxygen and nitrogen present in the form of impurity in certain metals like $Zr$ and $Ti.$
