Solution
(a) The solutions which resist change in $pH$ on dilution or with the addition of small amounts of acid or alkali are called buffer solution. It is a mixture of weak base with its salt or weak acid with its salt.
Thus, buffer solution can be prepared by mixing equal volumes of $0.2\, M\, NH _{4} OH$ (weak base) and $0.1 \,M\, HCl$ (strong acid). lt results in the formation of $NH _{4} OH$ (weak base) $+ NH _{4} Cl$ (salt of weak base $\left.NH _{4} OH \right)$, which is a basic buffer mixture.
