(b) $\sqrt {x + 10} + \sqrt {x – 2} = 6$$ \Rightarrow $$\sqrt {x + 10} = 6 – \sqrt {x – 2} $
$ \Rightarrow $ $x + 10 = 36 + x – 2 – 12\sqrt {x – 2} $
$ \Rightarrow $ $2 = \sqrt {x – 2} $ $ \Rightarrow $ $4 = x – 2$ $ \Rightarrow $ $x = – 6$
This value satisfies the given equation.
$\therefore x=6$.
